2020's

As a mature artist, this decade brings a deepened awareness of mortality and legacy, not as limits, but as calls to action. Past exclusions have given way to an unshakeable sense of value in the choices made and the work continues with renewed clarity.

Richtersveld field trips have resumed with greater intensity, while a return to oil painting has reawakened the medium that first defined his career. Even in an art world shaped by algorithms and visibility metrics, Slingsby’s creative force endures, more grounded, more vital, and more resolved than ever.

"The lotus flower, which has defined my art since 2021, is a hallucinogenic flower, which flourished in the Blue Nile. It’s depicted on the walls of pharaonic monumental temples and tombs, and is associated with the culture, glory and excesses of ancient Egypt. It is symbolic of the impact of modernity on Africa’s traditional communities through Anthropocene man’s activities."
